Our Story – It All Started With a Flag

FlagStride isn’t just a name. For us, every flag carries a memory, a small victory, a bold step, a story worth keeping.

The First Flag

When I was a kid, I used to pretend I was captain of a ship. I called it “Sunny.” My first flag wasn’t anything fancy. I grabbed an old white shirt, painted a rough pirate skull on it, and tied it to a stick I found in the yard. When the breeze caught it, that little scrap of cloth made the grass feel like waves and turned my backyard into an ocean. It wasn’t perfect, but to me it meant one thing: I was ready to sail.

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. But looking back, I saw how certain flags always showed up at important moments, almost like markers on a map, pointing toward where I was headed and where I’m headed. Those flags, and the stories behind them, are what eventually inspired the creation of FlagStride.

The Flag of Youth

When I was eighteen, I left home to study abroad. Before I left, I tucked a piece of that childhood flag into my bag. In a strange city, on nights when I felt homesick, just looking at it gave me comfort. That’s when I realized, a flag can carry a sense of belonging.

The Flag of Love

When I proposed to Chloe, we wanted something uniquely ours. So we decided to make a flag together. At its center was a huge heart, pieced together from hundreds of our photos, moments that told our story better than words ever could. On our wedding day, we unfurled that flag.  Our family and friends signed it, covering it with their blessings. Today, it’s more than just fabric; it’s a living scrapbook of our love.

The Flag of Conviction

After my first business failed, I felt completely adrift. In that emptiness, my mind kept returning to the little pirate flag I once made for my childhood “ship,” the Sunny. It was as if that flag was asking me: “Are you really going to give up now, Captain?” That memory was the push I needed to stand back up and keep going. That old flag became my quiet reminder that even when the journey gets rough, you don’t abandon the ship.

Mission – Why FlagStride?

Along the way, we learned something simple but powerful: a flag is never just fabric. It holds memories, milestones, and sometimes even the courage to keep going.

That’s why my friend Mike and I started FlagStride. We wanted to share that feeling that a flag can capture unforgettable moments, the beliefs you stand for, and the connections that matter most.

So for us, FlagStride isn’t about selling pieces of cloth. It’s about giving people a way to say, “This is who I am, this is what I believe, and this is where I’m headed.”

I still keep two flags tucked away in a drawer, the pirate flag I made for my childhood ship “Sunny,” and the flag Chloe and I designed together, covered with photos and blessings from our wedding day.
